Serge Aurier slammed by ex-Tottenham stars after Carabao Cup final
According to the Mirror, former Tottenham stars Jamie Redknapp and Michael Dawson have hit out at Serge Aurier after the team lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.
Heading into Sunday’s gargantuan contest at the Wembley, Tottenham had the opportunity to bring an end to the club’s 13-year trophy-less run. However, it was City who came out on top, having dominated the game from start to finish.
Spurs did well to hold off for as long as the 82nd minute with Hugo Lloris putting up a fine display while Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier held firm as well. However, it was a mistake from Serge Aurier, who gave away a free-kick from which the Cityzens struck.
And after the game, the Ivory Coast international was slammed by ex-Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp.
“Aurier does well to start with – he follows the one-two and then just makes the most ridiculous and rash decision, that we see him do so often. Just stand up, don’t dive in, don’t give the foul away – elementary mistake. Then you have a player who’s just come on as a sub – Sissoko – who is telling someone else what to do instead of doing his own job. He doesn’t see the run, his body position is wrong.”
Former captain Michael Dawson called the foul ‘criminal’ while also blasting Moussa Sissoko for not doing enough to stop Aymeric Laporte from scoring.
“The free-kick from Aurier is criminal. Sterling is going nowhere so he gives Man City an opportunity. They haven’t been great at defending crosses all season. Sissoko then gets caught square on, as soon as he does, Laporte has one step, gets in front of him because he doesn’t see and puts it into the bottom corner.”

It was a disappointing outcome but we still have the top four in the Premier League to play for. Up next is a game against relegated Sheffield United, where hopefully the team gets back to winning ways.
