Tottenham could sign Lorenzo Insigne if Maurizio Sarri becomes manager
According to Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia (h/t Daily Star), Tottenham Hotspur could have a chance of signing Lorenzo Insigne from Napoli in the summer if Maurizio Sarri is named the club’s manager.
Tottenham are on the lookout for a new manager for next season following the sacking of Jose Mourinho last week. Former midfielder Ryan Mason has been named interim boss till the end of the season as the club looks for the right choice to replace Mourinho on a full-time basis.
One of the names that has been mentioned is that of Maurizio Sarri. The 62-year-old has been out of job since last year when he was let go of Juventus despite leading them to the Serie A title. Currently unattached to any club, the Italian has been linked with the Tottenham job given as he did quite well during his season-long stint with Chelsea, leading them to the UEFA Europa League title. Now, it is being claimed that should Spurs go ahead and appoint Sarri, the club could stand a great chance of landing one of Italy’s top attackers in Lorenzo Insigne. The 29-year-old thrived at Napoli under the Italian manager and has gone onto enhance his reputation season after season following Sarri’s departure in 2018.
Indeed, Insigne, the captain of Napoli, has made 392 appearances for the club, bagging 107 goals and creating 83 more. A left-winger by trade, the Italy international has been in fine form this term, having racked up a tally of 17 goals and 9 assists in all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The report adds that Insigne is entering the final year of his contract with Napoli and would be open to following Sarri, wherever he takes up a job next.

Given his quality and our over-reliance on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, the potential addition of Insigne would certainly be a welcome one for Tottenham. With his contract expiring in a year, he could be available in a cut-price deal as well. However, any move would need the club to name Sarri as the manager. It remains to be seen if Spurs decide to go down this road at the end of the season.
