Transfer News: Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld wanted by AFC Ajax
Alderweireld, 32, joined Tottenham in the summer of 2015 from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid. During his time at the club, the Belgian international has established himself as a defensive stalwart for the club, racking up 231 appearances, in which he has nine goals and five assists. Alderweireld signed a new contract with the club not very long ago and still has two years left on his deal. However, reports of an exit in the summer have been doing the rounds amid speculation that Tottenham might restructure their defence in the summer. As a result, a move to former club Ajax as well as their chief rivals PSV Eindhoven has been constantly mooted. (h/t Inside Futbol)
And now, the aforementioned report is claiming that Ajax, indeed, are considering the prospect of re-signing Alderweireld at the end of the current season. The towering Belgian defender spent eight years on the books of the Dutch giants, having joined the club’s youth academy in 2005 before soaring through the youth ranks to become a regular fixture in the first-team.
Alderweireld went on to make 186 appearances for Die Godenzonen, in which he managed 15 goals and 12 assists, winning four Eredivisie titles along with a couple of Dutch Cups in the process. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Alderweireld, at 32, is entering the final phase of his career. However, the Belgian still has plenty left to offer at this level. So, a move to Ajax is unlikely to take place, given as the Dutch giants may find it hard to meet his wages as well.
