Transfer News: Tottenham urged to sign Max Aarons

According to transfer news from Lancashire Post, Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Tottenham to sign Max Aarons. The former Aston Villa striker feels that Aarons is the perfect right-back and will be an upgrade on the likes of Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier.

Aarons is a product of the Canaries youth academy. The right-back played an integral role in their promotion-winning 2018/19 season and was one of their standout performers during the 2019/20 season in the Premier League which ended in relegation.

Back in the Championship, Aarons has once again excelled and has been a key component of Daniel Farke’s side who have won the second division title and are set to return to the Premier League.

The right-back situation at Tottenham is a bit concerning. The club splashed the cash on Matt Doherty last summer but he has proven to be a major dud signing. Serge Aurier, meanwhile, continues to blow hot and cold. In addition, the Ivorian’s contract is up for expiry in a year, casting doubts over his future at the club.

Nonetheless, Agbonlahor felt that Aarons would be the perfect right-back for the club and is better than the options Spurs currently have.

“I’ve been disappointed that Doherty hasn’t played so much but I do think Doherty’s more of a wing-back than a right-back. He’s not the best at defending, he’s better going forward. If you had a super-strong right-sided centre-back of a three then you could let Doherty fly forward but Spurs haven’t got that.

For me, Max Aarons is the perfect right-back. Up and down. He can defend, he’s quick. I’m sure that’s one Spurs will be hoping to get over the line.”

The report adds that Norwich would be open to letting the 21-year-old leave if their demands are met as they had a gentleman’s agreement with Aarons last summer.

Young, dynamic and with some exposure to Premier League football, Aarons has the potential to be a handy acquisition for us. However, any move would likely hinge on who is named as the manager of the team.
