Transfer News: Everton leading the race for Tottenham target Merih Demiral
According to transfer news from SportsLens, Everton are leading the race for Tottenham target Merih Demiral. Juventus are willing to sanction a sale if there is a substantial offer from any team.
The 23-year-old started out at Turkish giants Fenerbahce and had stints at Sporting Lisbon, Alanyaspor and Sassuolo before joining Juventus last summer. However, the Turkish international endured a difficult debut season in Turin, owing to a cruciate ligament knee injury.
Having been restricted to just eight appearances in 2019/20, Demiral has once again been blighted by injury problems. And, as a result, he finds himself behind the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt in the pecking order.
As a result, Demiral has been restricted to just 23 appearances across all competitions in 2020/21, with 14 of them coming in Serie A. Despite his continued struggle to get regular game time in Turin, the 23-year-old’s stock remains high as ever, with a host of clubs lining up to sign him, should Juventus decide to offload the Turkish international this summer.
Everton are thought to be ahead in the race for him as Carlo Ancelotti believes that a new defender might be necessary to challenge for a European place next season. Demiral is understood to be an upgrade to the existing options at the club. Spurs were also looking at Demiral for similar reasons.

That being said, a new centre-back is of paramount importance as Tottenham look to get back on track in the upcoming campaign. To that end, someone like Demiral, despite his fitness problems, would be a fine signing. However, Spurs will need to beat off competition for the defer from the likes of Everton.
