Transfer News: Tottenham to battle Manchester United for Milan Skriniar
According to transfer News from Italian publication Leggo (h/t Sportslens), Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan but face Manchester United competition.
It is no secret that Tottenham spent a good part of the last summer transfer window trying to secure the signing of Skriniar. However, a move failed to materialise due to the club’s unwillingness to meet Inter’s asking price and the Slovakian ended up staying put at San Siro.
Having not left, Skriniar enjoyed a dream campaign, emerging as a key player as Inter Milan went on to lift the Serie A title for the first time in eleven years. However, despite on-field success, the Nerazzurri are going through serious financial difficulties which could force to sell them some of their important players in the summer.
And one such asset, who could be allowed to leave at the end of the season is Skriniar. The Slovakian international’s impressive performances over the course of the season have meant that he is once again on the radars of Tottenham while Manchester United are also interested in his services. Tottenham do need to bolster the defensive ranks ahead of the next season as Toby Alderweireld is not getting any younger while neither of Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier inspire confidence at the back. Joe Rodon has shown potential but remains inexperienced at the highest level. Someone like Skriniar, could thus, become an excellent signing for the Lilywhites.

But with Manchester United also in the fray, things may be a bit difficult as they will be able to offer Skriniar Champions League football for the next term. It now remains to be seen whether Spurs are able to get their hands on the 26-year-old at the second time of asking after having failed last year.
