Tottenham ask Harry Kane to emulate AS Roma legend Francesco Totti and stay at club
According to BBC Sport, Tottenham Hotspur have asked superstar Harry Kane to emulate AS Roma legend and remain a one-club man amid speculations over his future.
Reports from Sky Sports on Monday night rocked the Tottenham boat as they claimed that Kane had requested to leave the club at the end of the season.
Kane is attracting interest from a host of clubs in England and Europe, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea said to be sniffing around. (h/t Express)
Tottenham, though, are desperate to hold on to the star man and have now appealed to the England captain to stay put at the club, citing the example of former AS Roma captain and footballing legend Francesco Totti.
The Italy icon spent 25 years at boyhood club Roma, turning down offers from several big clubs on several occasions. Even though there was the possibility that he would have won more trophies at a different club, Totti turned down a move away before retiring at Roma, finishing with only five trophies to his name.
And, Tottenham have now urged Kane to follow in the legendary striker’s footsteps and become the new ‘Francesco Totti’. This comes after Kane recently revealed in an interview that he wants to be competing and winning for the biggest trophies in the game. (h/t Express)
“I want to be winning the biggest prizes there are to offer and we are not quite doing that. Individual awards are great – they are fantastic achievements. When I look back at the end of my career, these are the things I will go over and take in more but the goal right now as a player is to win team trophies.”
Manchester United tried to sign Francesco Totti, Sir Alex Ferguson told the Gazzetta dello Sport 🇮🇹
🗣 "It immediately became clear that Totti didn’t want to leave Rome. He was deeply attached to his city."
