Tanguy Ndombele left out of France squad for Euro 2020; Lloris, Sissoko called up
According to The Athletic, the France national team has named their squad for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2020, with no place for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.
The European Championships had been scheduled to take place last year but were postponed to 2021 after the pandemic struck. With the summer extravaganza set to begin in less than a month, participating teams have all been releasing their squads for the big tournament.
And, world champions France, who also happened to be the finalists of the UEFA Euro 2016, also named their squad on Tuesday night. And, manager Didier Deschamps has picked a rather familiar squad with very little in the way of surprises, apart from the return of Karim Benzema. (h/t The Athletic)
However, that has meant disappointment for one Tottenham Hotspur player as Tanguy Ndombele has failed to make the cut for the Euro 2020 with France. The 24-year-old has had a rocky couple of years since joining Spurs in 2019 from Olympique Lyon, which eventually has led to him dropping out of the picture from the French roster.
Ndombele did briefly enjoy some positive moments this season, which even led to him getting a recall into the national team during the international break in March. However, he has not done enough since then to convince Deschamps to call him up for the Euros.
Two other Tottenham stars, however, do get into the roster, with captain Hugo Lloris a certainty while Moussa Sissoko has been selected as well. (h/t The Athletic)

Ndombele so far in 2020/21 campaign has featured 45 times for Tottenham, scoring six goals and setting up four more. While there have been improvements from his debut campaign in England, it is quite clear that the Frenchman has a long way to go to fulfil his unbridled potential.
With the FIFA World Cup next year, a good season could very well force him back into the plans for the France national team.
