Transfer News: Tottenham rekindle interest in Man United Dean Henderson
According to news from Sky Sports (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur have rekindled their transfer interest in Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson amid uncertainties surrounding his future.
Henderson, a product of the Manchester United youth academy, finally got his big break in the first-team this season after two extremely impressive loan spells away at Sheffield United. Having been second-choice to David de Gea in the early parts of the campaign, the Englishman has been installed as the first-choice of late by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, the report claims that De Gea is back as the No.1 again after the Spaniard started in the league game against Fulham last time out, casting doubts over the future of Henderson again. And this development has put a number of clubs on high alert with Tottenham Hotspur among them. (h/t Express)
Tottenham are in need of a new goalkeeper heading into the new season as captain Hugo Lloris is nearing 35 and is entering the final year of his contract. The Frenchman, while putting up some fine displays, has also shown flaws that come with age. With Joe Hart and Paulo Gazzaniga not available options for the No. 1 role, it becomes imperative that the club brings in a new goalkeeper this summer.
And Henderson, to that end, has emerged as a potential transfer target for Tottenham. The 24-year-old has had two full seasons in the Premier League and has done quite well. A move for the Englishman would, thus, be a smart move for the club.
