Blow for Tottenham as PSG trigger Mauricio Pochettino contract extension
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Mauricio Pochettino as PSG have acted to extend his contract by a year amid exit speculations.
Pochettino has been with PSG since January earlier this year. The Argentine took over the reins at the club after spending close to 15 months out of management following his sacking from Tottenham in November 2019.
In his short time with the Parisian outfit, Pochettino has won two trophies – the French Cup and the French Super Cup, although his team did come up short in the Ligue 1 title rice to LOSC Lille.
Amidst all this, Tottenham have sacked Jose Mourinho, the man who replaced Pochettino and are now looking to bring back the Argentine to the club. It has been claimed that there has been contact made with the 49-year-old over the possibility of a return, amid reports that he is unhappy with how things are run at PSG. (h/t Daily Mail)
However, that might not be possible now as PSG have seemingly triggered a one-year contract extension on his existing deal. Upon signing, Pochettino had penned an eighteen-month contract which ran till the summer of 2022. However, that has now been extended till 2023, putting PSG in a strong negotiating position over any potential exit. (h/t Daily Mail)

Pochettino’s potential return is certainly something that will appeal to a large section of the Tottenham supporters, especially given the circumstances in which he was sacked. However, PSG’s position in the matter, coupled with Real Madrid’s interest in his services, could make a comeback tricky for the 49-year-old.
