Moussa Sissoko hints at Tottenham summer exit after ‘difficult’ season
Speaking to Foot Mercato (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has dropped a major hint that he could be on his way out of the club this summer.
Sissoko signed for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2016 from Newcastle United for a then club record transfer fee of £30m. After a difficult debut season in London, the 31-year-old grew into somewhat of a regular for the club and has, till date, made 202 appearances, scoring five goals and setting up 15 more. In the season gone by, Sissoko featured 42 times across all competitions, although he was sparingly used by interim manager Ryan Mason towards the back end of the campaign. And the midfielder acknowledges that it has been a difficult year for himself as well as the club, following which he would not close the doors on a potential move away in the upcoming transfer window. “This is my 5th year at the club and I have had some very good moments. Now, I am a person who does not close any doors. If a new challenge presents itself, we will see what I do. But today, I do not close any doors concerning my future, because as I said, it was a difficult year for me at the club.”
The midfielder did insist that he would also want to hear what the club has planned for him before taking a call on his future.
“I also want to see what the club will decide. Maybe they will say to me: “Moussa, it is time to go elsewhere.” Or maybe they will say to me: ‘Moussa, we absolutely want you to stay.’ In any case, I am open to all propositions today because I have experienced quite a difficult year.
“What I want, is to continue to play, and enjoy myself. So I am not saying that I absolutely want to leave Tottenham. I feel good over there, I have had good moments and I feel good with the fans and my teammates, who I get on well with. We will speak with the club and we will take a decision at that moment.”

Sissoko still has two years left on his contract with Tottenham. While not really an undroppable asset, the Frenchman does add value with his experience and work-rate. Whether he stays at the club beyond the summer could largely hinge on who becomes the next manager and what plans he has for the midfielder.
