Roberto Martinez addresses future amid Tottenham job speculations
Speaking in a press conference (h/t Football.london), Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has addressed talks over his future amid links to the Tottenham Hotspur job.
Tottenham Hotspur are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho back in April. Ryan Mason saw the team through till the end of the season. But it is high time that the club made a permanent appointment with the summer transfer window looming large.
A number of names have been mentioned as potential candidates for the role, including Belgium boss Roberto Martinez. The Spaniard has experience of managing in England, having had stints with Swansea City, Wigan Athletic and Everton.
Since taking over the Belgian national team, Martinez has turned them into the No. 1 ranked side in the FIFA World Rankings. He will once again be in the dugout for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2020 but post that, his future is uncertain, especially due to the Tottenham rumours.
Responding to those speculations, Martinez insisted that the time was not right to discuss his future when he was focusing on leading his team in a tournament that he and his players have been waiting for some time. (h/t Football.london)
“We have been looking forward to this tournament for three years. Now is not the time to talk about my future.”

Martinez’s contract with the Belgium national team was up for expiry last year. However, he was handed an extension due to the postponement of the Euros owing to the pandemic. His deal will run out this year, following which he could very well be available to return to club management. Whether Tottenham decide to swoop, remains to be seen.
