Tottenham transfer target Danny Ings backed to leave Southampton by Carlton Palmer
Speaking to Football Fancast (h/t Express), former Southampton striker Carlton Palmer has backed Danny Ings to leave the club this summer amid transfer interest from Tottenham and Manchester United.
Ings has been with Southampton since 2018, having joined from Liverpool, initially on loan before making the transfer permanent a year later. The England international enjoyed a brilliant 2019/20 season during which he finished as the second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League.
While the 2020/21 campaign start on a similar note, Ings was bogged down by injuries in the latter stages while the Saints’ poor form also meant that he wasn’t able to repeat his heroics from the past season.
Nevertheless, with his contract expiring in a year, there has been a lot of interest in Ings ahead of the summer window. While Manchester United are linked with him, Tottenham, too, have shown an interest, amid the lack of a backup to Harry Kane, whose own future at the club is uncertain. (h/t Express)
And Palmer, who played for Southampton in the past, has backed the England international to secure an exit from the St. Mary’s Stadium in the upcoming transfer window. (h/t Express)
“Why would you want to go somewhere and not be a first-team regular? He’s at that stage of his career now [where he should be wanting to play]. For sure, he’s going to move because there’s a reason why he’s not signed his contract – something’s sorted. The only reason why you go to those places now is because it’s a bumper payday.”

Ings may have managed just 12 league goals last term but the Englishman has proven himself to be a capable marksman when fit. While he wouldn’t exactly be able to replace Kane at Tottenham, the ex-Liverpool ace can still be a worthy acquisition for the Lilywhites.
