Roberto Martinez hints at Belgium exit after Euros amid Tottenham links

Speaking to The Times (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur managerial target Roberto Martinez has opened the door for a move, hinting that he could leave the Belgium job after the Euros.

Tottenham have been on the hunt for a new manager for well over a month now with no end in sight. Among the managers who have been linked with signing for the club is Roberto Martinez.

The Spaniard has been in charge of the Belgian national team since 2016 and has taken the team to great heights. Under Martinez, the Red Devils have become the No. 1 ranked team in the world and finished third in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Currently set to lead the Belgian side into the UEFA Euro 2020, the Spanish manager has hinted that he could decide for a change of scenery once the summer extravaganza out of the way.

“I came to Belgium for two years [in 2016] so whenever you ask about future planning, I’m the wrong man, I’m sure I’m going to give you the wrong answer. I’ve got a contract until the World Cup in Qatar but my commitment was always very clear.

“I had opportunities to leave in the last 18 months but it was the Euros. The commitment to doing the Euros is the only thing I’m sure about.”

Martinez, prior to managing Belgium, had stints with Swansea City, Wigan Athletic and Everton. While he may not have a whole lot of trophies, the Spaniard has experience in England and has proven his pedigree with the Belgian national team.

Whether that is enough for Tottenham to move on him and if he is willing to leave his job with the World Cup only a year away, remains to be seen.
