Transfer News: Tottenham, Everton to battle for Diego Rossi
According to transfer news from The Telegraph (subscription required), Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out with Premier League rivals Everton for the signing of Uruguayan forward Diego Rossi.
The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at Uruguayan outfit Penarol and made 51 first-team appearances for the club, bagging 13 goals and setting up 11 more.
This form earned Rossi a transfer to MLS outfit Los Angeles FC in January 2018. And the versatile forward has thrived in the United States. To date, the Uruguayan has produced an impressive tally of 56 goals and 21 assists from 107 appearances for the MLS club and has already scored thrice in five games in the 2021 season. Having previously won the Golden Boot in an MLS season, Rossi, who can play on the left flank or as a centre-forward, is known for his supreme finishing ability. And, it seems like that has landed him on the radars of two Premier League clubs in Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.
For Tottenham, the interest in Rossi is self-explanatory. Carlos Vinicius’ loan deal with the club has come to an end, with Spurs unlikely to trigger the option to sign him permanently this summer. This leaves Harry Kane as the only out-and-out senior striker in the squad, with even the England captain being linked with an exit.
Bringing in someone like Rossi, who can provide valuable cover to Kane, should he stay, would be a useful piece of business for Tottenham. What makes it even more appealing is that the 23-year-old is expected to cost just £10m.

Everton are also in the market for a centre-forward backup, having released Josh King at the end of the season. It now remains to be seen if Tottenham are able to beat the Toffees to land the Uruguayan forward before next season.
