Tottenham ready to make an offer for £50m-rated Tariq Lamptey
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make an opening offer for Tariq Lamptey, although Brighton & Hove Albion are likely to demand £50m for the defender.
Lamptey is a product of the Chelsea youth academy. The young right-back progressed through the youth ranks at Spurs’ London rivals and went on to make his first-team debut for the Blues in 2019/20 under Frank Lampard.
However, the lack of a pathway to the first-team saw him decide to leave for Brighton & Hove Albion in the January transfer window last year. Since then, the 20-year-old has progressed quite a lot and is considered one of the most exciting young full-backs in the country.
The 2020/21 campaign was cut short with a serious injury for Lamptey. Prior to him getting injured though, the youngster was on a tear, as he managed one goal and three assists in just eleven Premier League matches. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Lamptey signed a new contract with Brighton this past January, extending his stay at the club till 2025. However, despite that, Tottenham have now expressed an interest in signing the 20-year-old this summer, as a potential replacement for Serge Aurier who is set to be on his way out. (h/t Sky Sports)
To that end, Tottenham are now readying an offer for the English youngster. However, any move would not be straightforward as Brighton are likely to demand a transfer fee of around £50m for their prized asset.

Lamptey, given his age and the promise that he has shown, would be a fine signing for Tottenham. However, the price tag does feel a bit too excessive. And, if Brighton are firm on their valuation, the club would be better off looking elsewhere.
