Transfer News: Tottenham out of the race for Nicolas Gonzalez
According to transfer news from reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have been handed a blow in their pursuit of Nicolas Gonzalez. Fiorentina are said to have pipped both Spurs and Brighton to a €27m deal for the Argentine.
The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at Sportivo Escobar, Club Belen and Argentinos Juniors. He went on to make 44 appearances for the latter club, scoring 11 goals, before joining Stuttgart in the summer of 2018.

Gonzalez endured a difficult debut season in Germany as Stuttgart were relegated from the Bundesliga. However, the winger found his footing in the second division, helping them back to the top-flight. The Argentine winger was in good touch over the last season too.
It was earlier believed that Spurs, Brighton and Fiorentina were in the race to sign him. However, it would seem like the Italian side have stolen a march on both and have agreed on a deal worth €27m plus add-ons. Spurs and Brighton are not expected to return with another offer.

This does come as a bit of a blow to Spurs, especially due to some of the on-loan players leaving. A versatile forward, Gonzalez might have been a good fit for our attack. Nonetheless, Spurs will now have to turn their attention to other targets.
