Transfer News: The five potential Manchester City makeweights for Tottenham Hotspur in Harry Kane deal
According to a report by The Athletic, discussions between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have taken place over a transfer for Harry Kane, with the Citizens clarifying that any potential deal would have to include players in part-exchange.
City apparently made a £100million bid for the 27-year-old on Monday. And Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, Aymeric Laporte, Raheem Sterling, as well as Bernardo Silva have been named as potential makeweights.
However, the report goes on to add that Tottenham are not interested in this deal. This saga could drag on beyond the Euros, until the deadline day.
Daniel Levy is also more resolute than ever to hold onto his prized possession. However, this deal does not sound bad, at least on paper, if the current situation is taken into consideration.
The worst case
If there comes a point where Kane really makes it clear that he wants to depart and Spurs can’t control the situation, then cash plus one or two of the aforementioned players doesn’t sound all that bad.
Spurs can particularly use someone like Aymeric Laporte to shore up the defence while Sterling or Mahrez can be excellent options on the right-wing considering Gareth Bale’s loan spell comes to an end.
Jesus can also be a replacement for Kane, albeit one that doesn’t have a similar stature. But this should be a last resolve by the club and Spurs fans would prefer having the Englishman playing in Tottenham white next season.
