Tottenham given fresh Mauricio Pochettino hope as the Argentine still keen on an exit
According to Duncan Castles on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur have been given fresh hope in their pursuit of Mauricio Pochettino, who is pushing for an exit from PSG.
Tottenham’s search for a new manager is yet to reach a conclusion. Since the sacking of Jose Mourinho back in April, a number of managers have been approached but the club hasn’t been able to make an appointment to date.
More recently, talks were held with Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca as well as Gennaro Gattuso, but each of the deals stalled over some or the other reason, leaving the club still looking for a new head coach. (h/t Express)
However, they may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of a new manager, as ex-boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is also being considered for a return, is intent on leaving PSG claims Castles. The 49-year-old took over the reins at the French club only in January earlier this year but is said to be discontent and is angling for a move away. (h/t Express)
“He was obviously open to talking to Tottenham, Tottenham briefed that they were open to bringing him back. It seemed that Paris Saint-Germain’s actions had cut that path off. What I’m being told is that Pochettino is continuing to put pressure on Paris Saint-Germain, to put pressure on the Qatari owners, to allow him to leave this summer, regardless of Leonardo exercising that option which has made it more expensive for him to get out.
“So there you have at least the potential that Daniel Levy can get the man back who he seems to regret having sacked. It would certainly, from a PR perspective, wash away a terrible few weeks for them, with failure on successive attempts to appoint a range of candidates.”

Given the way things have been going of late, Pochettino’s return, if it happens, will be welcomed with open arms by fans. However, such a move could only happen if PSG are willing to relent on their current stance.
