Transfer News: Jonathan Barnett reveals if Tottenham Hotspur can re-sign Gareth Bale on loan for next season
Speaking to Standard Sport, Jonathan Barnett, the agent of Gareth Bale, confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur do not have the option to sign the Welsh winger on loan for a second year.
Bale spent this season at N17 on loan from Real Madrid. The Lilywhites even paid a portion of his massive £500,000-a-week wages – but it seems like he is destined to stay put in Spain.
Bale has one year left on his contract at Santiago Bernabeu. And while he was out of favour with Zinedine Zidane, he can find favour under their new coach, Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian manager says he has a ‘lot of love’ for the former Southampton man and that he can enjoy a successful stint at the club ‘if he is motivated’. (h/t Evening Standard)
Bale to Spurs looks unlikely
A return to Spurs has been mentioned for Bale, who was brought to London by Jose Mourinho. However, Barnett has reiterated that Tottenham do not have an option to re-sign the 31-year-old.
“As I have said from the beginning, there is no option. Gareth has no agreements whatsoever. He is under contract to Real.”
The Welshman played an important role for Spurs in the second half of this season. He found his footing under the Portuguese manager. But that is a thing of the past now, with Mourinho sacked and Bale tipped to make a return to Madrid.
The club is without a manager as of now; but whoever comes next would have Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, and Erik Lamela at their disposal to play down that right-hand side.

It seems like the dream return for Bale to Tottenham lasted for just one year and ended with heartbreak as Spurs missed out on the top-6 as well as the Carabao Cup trophy.
