Revealed: the role that Tottenham Hotspur have in mind for potential new transfer signing Takehiro Tomiyasu
Speaking in a Q&A session, Football.london journalist, Alasdair Gold, stated that Tottenham Hotspur want to deploy Takehiro Tomiyasu as a defensive right-back in their line-up.
He added that this would allow Spurs to play a back-three with Tomiyasu when out of possession, which will give Sergio Reguilon even more freedom to bomb forward and attack alongside Son Heung-min.
Gold then stated that there are indications of Fabio Paratici having held talks with Bologna for the Japanese international, and opined that Spurs should push through for a defender that fits their profile perfectly.
“The indications are that Tomiyasu will be available for less than £20m; and Paratici has held talks with Bologna so I think they’ll try to push this through, amid some competition, for the Japan international. He fits their profile perfectly and it’s a good price for him.”
Tomiyasu could be a useful signing
Nuno Espirito Santo is the new Spurs boss and he was famous for playing a 5-man defence with attacking wingbacks at Wolves, his previous club. However, very little can be said about what tactics he would want to utilize at N17.
Fans would, of course, have a clearer idea about that when Spurs play their first match under him. As for Tomiyasu, the 22-year-old would be a welcome addition to the squad.
He can play as a centre-back and a right-back, which would undoubtedly be useful for the club, especially considering the report by Football.london which cites journalist Rudy Galetti mentioning Serge Aurier’s potential return to PSG.
