Transfer News: Tottenham receive boost in chase for Jules Kounde
According to transfer news from Express, Tottenham have received a boost in their chase of Jules Kounde. Manchester United, who were the leading side in the race for Kounde, are now understood to be looking at other defensive targets such as Raphael Varane and Pau Torres. That gives Spurs a clear shot at Kounde if they decide to go for him.
Jules Kounde has quietly gone about establishing himself as one of the best young defenders in Europe. The 22-year-old has made quite the impression at Sevilla since arriving two seasons ago. A central part of Sevilla’s Europa League campaign in 2020, the Frenchman has developed by leaps and bounds.
Hence, it is no surprise to see him being linked with a host of clubs including Spurs. New manager Nuno Espirito Santo is said to be keen on making the Sevilla defender his first signing at the club. However, there was competition from our Premier League rivals such as Arsenal and Manchester United.
United in particular were keen on the defender as they want a partner for Harry Maguire. However, it looks as if they have turned their attention to other names such as Varane and Pau Torres. The means Spurs will have a clearer path to get Kounde, with just Arsenal to fend off (h/t Express).
