Transfer News: Tottenham set to battle Man United for Jules Kounde
According to transfer news from Mirror, Tottenham could face competition from Manchester United in signing Jules Kounde. United are said to be keeping Kounde as a contingency plan in case their move for Raphael Varane does not work out.
The London-based club are said to be interested in Jules Kounde of Sevilla with Nuno Espirito Santo looking to make him his first signing. The 22-year-old French defender has become a regular for Sevilla’s backline since his move in 2019. He also helped the club to the Europa League trophy last year.
Nuno’s first priority seems to be revamping the defence. The club endured a shaky season with most of the defenders showing fragility as Spurs kept conceding very preventable goals. Add to that, one of our best defenders, Toby Alderweireld has asked to leave the club.
Hence, Spurs have kept Kounde as an option they would like to pursue. However, they could face competition from Manchester United who are also in the hunt for a new defender. While Raphael Varane is said to be their first choice, Kounde is someone they are keeping as a backup.

Spurs are in need of defensive upgrades if they want to improve on their 7th place showing last season. Kounde looks like a good candidate for the role with his age and talent. However, with Manchester United now in the race, it won’t be easy to get the youngster. Especially if they cannot land Raphael Varane.
