Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur interested in Haris Seferovic

According to transfer news from reputed Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Switzerland international striker Haris Seferovic from SL Benfica this summer.

The 28-year-old Switzerland striker started out at his youth career FC Sursee before spending time at FC Luzern and Grasshoppers, where he made his senior debut. In 2010, he joined Italian outfit Fiorentina but made only a handful of appearances for the first-team.

Instead, he spent his time at the club out on loan at Xamax, Lecce and Novara before joining Real Sociedad permanently in 2013. One year later, he was on the move again, signing for Eintracht Frankfurt. He spent three years at the German club, before signing for Benfica in 2017.

To date, the 28-year-old has featured 173 times for the club, scoring 69 goals and setting up 23 more. Seferovic has represented the Switzerland national team on 79 occasions, scoring 24 goals in the process.

Seferovic enjoyed a prolific 2020/21 season during which he scored 26 goals for Benfica and set up seven more. This was followed by an impressive campaign at the UEFA Euro 2020 with the Swiss national team, which has seemingly put him on the radars of Tottenham Hotspur.

The North Londoners will be swiftly looking to close some transfers after having appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as the new manager. A centre-forward will be a necessary addition, the uncertain future of Harry Kane notwithstanding. With Carlos Vinicius’ loan deal expiring, Spurs need a new striker to cover for the England captain, in case he does stay put.

While Seferovic might not be the most popular option out there, the Switzerland forward has shown that he can do the job in front of the goal. As far as backups go, he can be a very handy addition for Tottenham. However, Benfica value him at €25m, which could prove to be a problem.
