Tottenham open talks with Jannik Vestergaard over a summer move
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have started talks with Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard over a potential transfer in the ongoing window as he enters the final year of his contract.
Vestergaard has been with Southampton since 2018, having arrived from Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach and has grown into a key player for the Saints over the past couple of seasons. However, the 28-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with the club, casting doubts over his future at St. Mary’s.
The 28-time capped Denmark international has been impressing quite heavily at the UEFA Euro 2020, playing a hand in his side’s progression to the semi-finals where they will be up against Harry Kane’s England.

Tottenham, having done a deal with Southampton for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg last year, are planning on a similar swoop for Vestergaard in the current transfer window, according to The Athletic.
With new manager Nuno Espirito Santo taking charge of the affairs, central defence seems like an area that the Portuguese is focusing on strengthening. And that is very much understandable considering that Toby Alderweireld is on his way out while one among Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez could also be offloaded as well. (h/t Eurosport)
So, someone like Vestergaard, who has experience in the Premier League and has done well over the past couple of years, would be a good addition for Spurs. The fact that he is in the final year of his deal and could be available for a bargain like his Denmark teammate Hojbjerg last year makes him even more appealing.

To that end, it is now being claimed that Tottenham have started talks with Vestergaard over a potential transfer this summer. Apart from him, the club are also looking at his Danish teammate Joachim Andersen as well as Bologna’s Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, the report adds.
