Newcastle, Bournemouth Celtic keen on Tottenham ace Cameron Carter-Vickers

According to an update from American journalist Larry Henry Jr of SBI Soccer, Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is being pursued by three clubs this summer, namely, Premier League outfit Newcastle United, AFC Bournemouth from the Championship and Scottish giants Celtic.

Carter-Vickers came through the Tottenham youth academy. He made his first-team debut back in 2016 but has featured just four times for the senior team so far. The 24-year-old has had loan spells at Swansea City, Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, Stoke City and Luton Town in the past.

The 2020/21 campaign saw Carter-Vickers sign for Bournemouth on a season-long loan deal. And he enjoyed a fairly decent season as the Cherries finished in the playoff places but couldn’t make it to the playoff finals. The centre-back featured in 26 games across all competitions, scoring one goal and setting up another. (h/t Transfermarkt)

With his loan deal expired, Carter-Vickers is staring at an uncertain future at Tottenham, who have extended his expiring contract by a year till 2022 to protect his transfer value. And Spurs could be set to reap benefits of that decision as three clubs – Newcastle United, Bournemouth as well as Scottish bigwigs Celtic are all pushing for his signing.

Further elaborating on the trio’s interest in the USMNT international, the journalist adds that Bournemouth had quietened their pursuit of the defender only to reenter the race while Celtic have already held talks with Spurs over a move. Newcastle, on the other hand, are still assessing their finances before launching a swoop.

Carter-Vickers has started the pre-season with Tottenham. But given his situation, as well as the fact that Tottenham are planning to bring in one new defender at least, the USMNT star does not have a future at the club. It now remains to be seen where the 24-year-old ends up next season.
