Tottenham target Mahmoud Dahoud set for new Borussia Dortmund contract

According to German newspaper WAZ (h/t The Sun), Borussia Dortmund are set to extend the contract of midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur and a few other clubs.

Dahoud burst onto the scenes at boyhood club Borussia Monchengladbach in 2013 and went on to grow into a regular in the first-team despite his young age over the next four years. Impressed by his progress and potential, Dortmund swooped in for him in the summer of 2017.

Since signing for the Black and Yellows, Dahoud has often found himself in and out of the side in his four years but has managed 101 appearances, in which he has three goals to show for.

This past season, though, saw Dahoud grow into a more prominent role under Edin Terzic, seemingly leading to interest from a number of clubs in England. Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been linked with a move for the 25-year-old who has been likened to fellow German international Ilkay Gundogan.

However, as per the report, a move now seems to be out of the question. Dahoud, who just has one year left on his contract with Borussia Dortmund, is said to be keen on staying put at Signal Iduna Park and has held talks with the club over a new deal, which he is expected to pen in the near future.

Considering that Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks are looking at uncertain futures at the club, adding someone like Dahoud would have been a good move, given his ball-carrying capabilities and range of passing. However, it seems like the two-time capped German international will be staying put in Dortmund.
