Tottenham and Bologna £5m apart in Takehiro Tomiyasu negotiations
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur and Bologna are just £5m apart over the transfer fee for defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, with negotiations set to continue.
Tomiyasu has been a regular for Bologna since arriving at the club in 2019 from Belgian outfit Sint Truiden. The defender has made 63 appearances, in which he has scored and assisted three goals apiece. The 22-year-old, who is versatile enough to play at centre-back as well as at right-back with equal comfort, featured 33 times in the 2020/21 season.
Tottenham have been hot on the trails of Tomiyasu over the past couple of weeks as defensive reinforcements are sought by manager Nuno Espirito Santo and sporting director Fabio Paratici.
Indeed, the report claims that there is a scope for up to two centre-backs arriving at the club this summer, with Tomiyasu’s ability to play on the right as well as centre making him an attractive proposition.
The 22-year-old, on his part, is also keen on securing a transfer to the Premier League even as Atalanta make an attempt to keep him in Italy. In fact, as per reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football.london), Tottenham have already made an opening bid of around €18m (£15.4m).
However, The Telegraph is now claiming that Spurs are still £5m short of Bologna’s asking price for the defender, which is set at £21.5m. There may be a small discrepancy in the values being reported but as things stand, Spurs are yet to agree on a transfer fee, although negotiations are ongoing.
