Tottenham enter race to sign Chelsea target Maxence Lacroix
According to Sky Sport journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t Express), Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici is keen on raiding VfL Wolfsburg for the signing of defender Maxence Lacroix, who is a target for Chelsea.
Lacroix came through the youth ranks at French club Sochaux, for whom he went on to make 28 first-team appearances. The 21-year-old made the switch to Germany in the summer transfer window last year, signing for Wolfsburg, where he has become an instant hit.
Indeed, the towering defender played a key role as the Wolves ended up securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League for next season by the way of a fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga. Lacroix featured 36 times in his debut season with the German club, scoring and assisting a couple of goals each as well.
And, the Frenchman’s exploits in the Bundesliga have now put him on the radars of top clubs in the Premier League. Indeed Sky Germany (h/t Express) had reported last month that Chelsea were keen on signing the 21-year-old Lacroix. Now, Di Marzio reports that the Blues have been joined by Tottenham as well.
It is no top secret that Tottenham are scouring the transfer market for defensive reinforcements after an underwhelming 2020/21 term. Lacroix, given his age and potential, can be a good, long-term signing especially considering that he is likely to be available for £25m. However, Wolfsburg remain hopeful of keeping him at the club as per their sporting director Marcel Schafer.
“I assume that he will continue to play for us. He can take another big step in his development with us in the Champions League.”

With Chelsea also interested in his services as well as RB Leipzig, it might not be easy for Tottenham to sign Lacroix. It remains to be seen if the Lilywhites are ready to push for his transfer look at other options.
