Harry Kane issues statement after racist abuse against England teammates

Taking to Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur superstar and England captain Harry Kane has slammed fans for directing racist abuse at his teammates.

Following England’s penalty shootout defeat to Italy in the finals of the UEFA Euro 2020 on Sunday night, some of the Three Lions’ stars, three in particular – Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka – have received vile racist abuse online because the trio could not convert from the penalty spot.

The fallout from the defeat has been quite shocking, despite the way England performed throughout the tournament. Some sections of so-called “fans” have directed vile and abhorrent racist abuse at the players for missing the penalties.

And Kane has leapt to the defence of his teammates while also voicing his disgust at the abuse that they have had to receive. Sharing a picture of the entire England team on his Twitter account, the England captain wrote:

“Three lads who were brilliant all summer had the courage to step up & take a pen when the stakes were high. They deserve support & backing not the vile racist abuse  they’ve had since last night. If you abuse anyone on social media you’re not an England fan and we don’t want you.”
