Tottenham dealt blow as Napoli drop hint over Isco signing

According to the Express, Serie A outfit Napoli dropped a major hint over the potential signing of Real Madrid playmaker Isco, who is a transfer target for Tottenham.

The 29-year-old has been with Real Madrid since 2013, having joined from fellow La Liga club Malaga. He had been an integral member of the team for the majority of his time at the Spanish capital outfit. During his time at the club, Isco has won two La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League trophies. But things haven’t been the same of late.

The Spanish midfielder struggled for game time under Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid over the eighteen months or so. Indeed, Isco started just 8 La Liga games in 2020/21, hardly making any sort of impact. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Having been out of favour. things don’t seem like improving under new manager Carlo Ancelotti. As a result, Isco is eyeing a move away from the club, with both Tottenham, as well as Arsenal, registering an interest in the Spanish international’s services along with AC Milan.

However, it may be so that the midfielder could be bound for Napoli this summer. The Partenopei teased a move on social media, as they posted a tweet that read  “Isco – Google search”, before quickly deleting it. Whether that is a hint at a signing or them entering the market for his transfer remains unclear.

Either way, it makes things difficult for Tottenham Hotspur. Having seen the likes of Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele struggle, adding another creative player could have been a good move.

Although, the fact that Isco himself has failed to light up the stage with his displays mean Spurs might not be too disappointed if they do end up missing out on him.
