Transfer News: Tottenham close in on signing Takehiro Tomiyasu
According to transfer news from Corriere dello Sport (h/t ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of Takehiro Tomiyasu from Serie A outfit Bologna FC.
The 22-year-old Tomiyasu has been with Bologna for two years now, having arrived from Belgian outfit Sint-Truiden. During his time in Italy, the versatile defender has made quite an impression, with his defensive nous as well as the ability to play at right-back or centre-back.
Tottenham have been chasing Tomiyasu’s signing for a while now, with the Daily Mail reporting towards the end of the last month that the club had started negotiations with Bologna over a move.
The same publication reported earlier this month that Bologna had turned down an offer from Spurs for the Japanese international defender. The Telegraph corroborated the same story while adding that Tottenham were £5m short of Bologna’s valuation of their defender.
However, things seem to have resolved now, with the aforementioned report claiming that Tottenham are indeed close to completing the transfer of the 22-year-old. It states that Tomiyasu is keen on a transfer to north London and it is only a matter of time before the two clubs come to an agreement over the details of a transfer.

Tomiyasu is currently away on international duty, representing Japan at the Tokyo Olympic Games that are set to start from the coming week. It remains to be seen if a deal is agreed upon before the Games start or once the 22-year-old returns after his involvement in the event.
As things stand, Tomiyasu is close to being the first signing for Tottenham in the Nuno Espirito Santo era.
