Tottenham preparing proposal for Wolves forward Daniel Podence

According to journalist Pedro Almeida on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur are readying a proposal worth €25-27m in order to secure the signing of Portuguese ace Daniel Podence from Wolves.

The 25-year-old Podence came through the academy of Sporting CP and had a loan spell at Moreirense before making his first-team debut at the club. In 2018, the winger left for Greek outfit Olympiacos where he impressed a great deal, prompting Wolves to sign him in January last year.

While Podence has shown signs of brilliance during his time with the Midlands outfit, he has been bogged down by injuries. As a result, he has managed just 38 appearances in 18 months for Wolves, scoring four goals and setting up five more for his teammates. Nonetheless, Tottenham are now said to be eyeing a swoop for him this summer.

The interest could be rising from the fact that Nuno Espirito Santo is now the manager of Tottenham. The Portuguese tactician was the one who signed Podence at Wolves and knows him well from the pair’s time together at the Molineux.

Spurs could certainly do with another wide forward this summer, following the expiry of Gareth Bale’s loan spell. The Welshman has returned to Real Madrid while the likes of Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn and Erik Lamela have underwhelmed a great deal over the past year.

Tottenham, to that end, are now said to be readying a proposal for Podence in the range of €25-27m.

Podence is contracted with Wolves till the summer of 2024. Whether they would be willing to accept such a sum for the 25-year-old, while his suspect injury record could be a concern, as far as Tottenham are concerned.
