Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur told Lorenzo Pellegrini price tag
According to a report by The Athletic (Subscription Required), Lorenzo Pellegrini of AS Roma is a possible transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur.
The report mentions that the midfield is ‘less of a priority’ as of now at N17, but if they intend to sign the Italian midfield maestro, it would take £25.6million, which is his release clause.
Spurs have decent depth in midfield, with the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Giovani Lo Celso, Dele Alli, and Tanguy Ndombele fighting for places. Even Oliver Skipp, who returned from Norwich this summer after a loan spell, is expected to stay at the club.
The 25-year-old, who came from Roma’s academy, would add a great deal of quality and depth in Nuno Espirito Santo’s midfield. However, the club’s focus should be on other areas as of now.
Spurs have other areas to strengthen
A backup for Harry Kane seems must. The club is without a natural No.9 after Carlos Vinicius’ loan spell at the club ended this summer.
In that regard, bringing in someone to partner the Englishman or become his understudy seems like something Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy should turn their attention to.
Even defence would be an area where they could strengthen further. There is a chance that the club can lose two solid Belgian defenders in back-to-back seasons.
After Jan Vertonghen’s departure to SL Benfica in 2020, Alderweireld has also told the club of his intentions to leave the club during the summer transfer window. (h/t The Athletic) [Subscription Required]

Amidst all this, Pellegrini’s signing would be something of a luxury. But if the club somehow manages to land the former Sassuolo midfielder, there may not be a lot of fans complaining about that move.
