Transfer News: Manchester City considering Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski as Harry Kane alternative
According to a report by The Daily Mail, Manchester City have grown frustrated in their efforts to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, and have turned their attention to Bayern Munich ace Robert Lewandowski as a possible alternative.
The report mentions that the Citizens are monitoring the contract situation of the Polish striker. He is currently on more than £300,000-a-week wages and his contract expires in the summer of 2023.
Lewandowski is yet to sign a new deal and top clubs in the continent believe that he is a realistic target as Bayern could risk losing him for a reduced fee. He signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2014 and has spent 7 successful years at the club.
City had a £100million bid turned down from Daniel Levy for Harry Kane. While Kane mentioned that he could leave his boyhood club, that has only strengthened Levy’s resolve of keeping the Englishman at N17. (h/t The Daily Mail)
Kane pursuit cools down to some extent
Lewandowski is a lethal striker and has proved his worth in Bundesliga year after year. While him joining City could mean one of Spurs’ top 6 rivals strengthening, fans wouldn’t mind it if it means Kane’s Tottenham stay is extended.
The 27-year-old has spent his entire professional career on Tottenham’s books and the fans would know that Kane would be vital if Tottenham are to win their first major trophy since 2008.
With a change in backroom staff this summer, Tottenham have plenty of new personnel in Nuno Espirito Santo, Fabio Paratici, and others.
