Tottenham announce the signing of Bryan Gil from Sevilla

Tottenham Hotspur have completed their second summer signing – the club have announced the arrival of Bryan Gil from Sevilla. The Spanish prodigy has signed the contract until 2026.

The official club statement adds that Erik Lamela will be joining Sevilla as part of the deal. The deal is subject to international clearance. The player will join the camp, once his international duty at Tokyo Olympics is concluded. 

Bryan Gil is now a Tottenham player

As per Fabrizio Romano, along with Lamela, Spurs will pay €25m for the services of Bryan Gil, in addition to Lamela moving the other way.

Reguilon, the agent for the Bryan Gil deal?

Journalist, Fabrizio Romano gave the “here-we-go” stamp of approval on 22nd July. However, it was Sergio Reguilon who reacted first to the news. The left-back tweeted the following, minutes before the official announcement –

The official tweet cheekily suggests that Sergio Reguilon played a role in bringing his fellow Spaniard to N17. 

Erik Lamela bids farewell

Quite the bittersweet evening for Spurs fans. The arrival of Bryan Gil meant that Erik Lamela will be moving on after eight long years at North London. Tottenham signed Lamela in 2013/2014. The move materialized after Gareth Bale’s departure to Real Madrid. 

Following the announcement, Lamela penned an emotional letter to spurs fans on Instagram. He appreciated his time in London and thanked the fans for treating him “excellently”. He concluded by suggesting that Spurs will always be a part of him.

The player has signed a three-season contract with Sevilla. The 29-year-old will wear the number 17 kit for the Spanish side.
