Barcelona set to hijack Christian Romero move to Tottenham

According to Sportitalia (h/t Daily Mail), Barcelona are ready to out-muscle Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Christian Romero. The report adds that the Spanish side has been keeping an eye on Romero’s situation. However, the club will finally make a bid in ‘coming days’.

Romero’s club, Atalanta won’t stop a potential bidding war between Barca and Spurs.

Atalanta signed Romero in 2020. The player left Juventus on a loan deal. However, Atalanta have doubled down on using the option to buy Christian Romero for around £14m.

Romero has had an impressive 2020-21 season. He was crowned as the ‘Defender of the Season’ by Serie A and was a part of Atalanta’s squad which reached the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Romero then went on to win the Copa America 2020 with his nation Argentina.

The player hinted about Spurs’ interest while on international duty, saying that he is open to the move if an ‘important’ club comes. He also went on to add that the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world.

Tottenham’s agreement with Christian Romero

Last week, Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the player has not refused a potential move to Spurs. The Argentinian even has personal terms agreed with the club for a contract until June 2026.
