Atalanta’s Cristian Romero is still the priority for Tottenham Hotspur
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his Twitch stream (h/t football.london) provided the latest on Cristian Romero to Tottenham Hotspur.
The journalist stated that he is “confident” about both clubs reaching an agreement, adding that the player is considered as the “priority” by Tottenham. However, he denies reports from Italy that it’s a done deal. While the clubs will continue negotiating, it is not concluded as of now.
Timeline of negotiations
Fabrizio Romano revealed Tottenham’s interest in the Argentinian on 22nd July. The tweet stated that Tottenham and Romero have agreed on personal terms until June 2026.
He followed up by the below tweet, suggesting that Spurs and Atalanta are negotiating about a potential deal…

Romano’s latest update on this situation came via a Tweet on July 27th. He suggested that both clubs are yet to reach an agreement. However, Tottenham are being proactive in case a deal could not go through. The club have lined up Takehiro Tomiyasu, Nikola Milenkovic and Kurt Zouma as potential alternatives.
Cristian Romero is part of a defence revamp at Tottenham
Managing director, Fabio Paratici and Nuno Espirito Santo are planning to set up a fresh defence ahead of the new season as they aim for the club’s first major trophy since 2008.

The club has not yet officially made any defensive signings. However, the revamp process has started with Toby Alderweireld leaving for Al-Duhail, a team based in Qatar, and fans would hope that the club has someone in mind to replace him.
