Aston Villa to rival Tottenham for Sampdoria’s Mikkel Damsgaard
Italian outlet Sportmedia (h/t Birmingham Mail) reported the latest in Tottenham hunt for Mikkel Damsgaard. The report suggests that Aston Villa have emerged as a potential buyer. Tottenham will now have to barge off the interest from Villa if they are to secure the player. The report also adds Leeds United to the mix. However, Aston Villa are tipped to make a move for Damsgaard.
The report proposes that Sampdoria do not want to sell. However, the Italian club might consider if an offer of around £35m arrives. The club’s finances have taken a hit due to COVID. Hence, they are in need of cash injections.
Damsgaard at Euro 2020
Sampdoria signed Mikkel Damsgaard in 2020. However, the player has been in the headlines recently. Damsgaard was a part of the Danish side which reached the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2020.
The player made his mark in a group stage match against Russia. Damsgaard became the youngest Danish player to score at the European Championship. The 21-year-old made his mark among the English fans after scoring a free-kick against England in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Do Tottenham need Mikkel Damsgaard?
Tottenham have already announced the signing of Bryan Gil. The winger could be the second choice behind Son. So one can assume that Damsgaard, who has a similar profile, would be a luxury.
However, the departure of Erik Lamela has opened up a slot at Tottenham. Damsgaard is still only 21. With the club playing in four competitions next season, Damsgaard might get enough time to ease himself in.
