Tottenham set to close the deal for Cristian Romero

Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Cristian Romero situation. The journalist has been covering the saga for a while. However, it now seems that the deal could be soon completed. The latest tweet states that the player is ‘one step away’ from joining Tottenham.

Spurs have bid around €50m for Romero and Atalanta are expected to accept the offer. The tweet added that Barcelona were never in the race.

Cristian Romero, as previously stated, had his eyes set on Spurs. Yesterday, Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the player will tell the Atalanta board about joining Tottenham, stating it as an opportunity that can’t be missed. One could assume that the Italian side agreed with the player.

What does Cristian Romero bring to Tottenham?

Tottenham’s current defensive core might seem underwhelming. Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon are still young and inexperienced. While Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez do not lack in experience, both have never really managed to seal their starting spot. The club have announced the departure of Toby Alderweireld.

The addition of Cristian Romero to the above core could be a major boost for Tottenham. The Copa America winner could become the first big-money signing of Nuno Espirito Santo era. Romero, still 23, could have the same impact that both Vertonghen and Alderweireld had at Spurs.

Hence, Romero could be a quality addition to this Tottenham side.

This might also benefit the development of Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga. The club will play in four different competitions. Rodon or Tanganga could gradually play in matches with less pressure and work their way up.

However, Japhet Tanganga has been approached by Galatasaray for a loan deal.
