Transfer News: Tottenham in contact over Philippe Coutinho move
According to transfer news from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Mirror), Tottenham have been contacted over a move for Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian playmaker’s agent is said to have made contact with Spurs. The club are eyeing a marquee name in the possible case that Harry Kane departs.
Coutinho was a huge talent during his Liverpool days and was one of their best players under Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp. He regularly chipped in with goals and assists. A neat dribbler of the ball, the Brazilian could crack open the meanest of defences with ease. He has still got all that in his locker, as we saw at Bayern in 2020.
His Barcelona blip can largely be put down to a few factors such as being played out of position and not being allowed the creative freedom he once had. It seemed like he would be the perfect replacement for Andres Iniesta but it has been anything but. Coutinho endured another frustrating campaign in Barcelona colours last season.
With Spurs staring down at a potential departure of their talismanic striker Harry Kane, contingency plans are being hatched. It would seem Kia Joorabchian, the agent of Philippe Coutinho has offered the Brazilian to Spurs. However, it is said that a deal for Coutinho is not dependent on Kane. Barcelona are also open to any sort of offer for him.

At this point, it’s hard to say how well Coutinho would do if he returns to the Premier League after several quiet seasons in Spain. He doesn’t exactly look like a replacement for Kane but he is a marquee name. It will be interesting to see if the club really takes up Joorabchian’s offer.
