Transfer News: Jubril Okedina leaves Tottenham Hotspur to join Cambridge United
According to Cambridgeshire Live, Cambridge United have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur defender, Jubril Okedina. The 20-year-old becomes their ninth signing of the summer.
The report adds that Okedina will be at Abbey Stadium for the new season and has put pen to paper on a two-year permanent deal on undisclosed terms. He was with the U’s on a loan spell last season.
Okedina joined them in the winter transfer window this year and made 15 appearances for Mark Bonner’s side as they won promotion to League One, the third tier of English football.
But he has now permanently left Hotspur Way in order to join up with his new team. Talking after his move, the 20-year-old Englishman revealed his happiness to be back at Cambridge playing in a higher league this time.
Farewell, Okedina
“I am very happy to be back. It just made sense for me to come back here with people I know and in a higher league. The conversations with the manager have been very positive and I can’t wait to get going now and to finally play in front of the fans.”
The London-born defender leaves N17 without having a single senior appearance under his belt. He was, however, an important fixture in the U18 and U23 sides.
But the call-up to the senior side never came under Mauricio Pochettino and later, Jose Mourinho. This move impacts Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team set-up in a negligible way.

For Okedina, though, this comes as a chance to establish himself in the senior team of a club on the rise. Let us hope we see him achieve big things at his new side.
