Bryan Gil to report for Tottenham training on Wednesday and could debut against Man City

According to The Athletic, Tottenham new boy, Bryan Gil is expected to report for training on Wednesday and could be handed his debut against Manchester City. Gil was yet to link up with the side after Spain went right to the finals of the Olympics, losing to Brazil.

Tottenham seemed to have pulled a rabbit out of the hat when they managed to land a prospect like Gil from Sevilla for £21million and sending Erik Lamela the other way. For all of Lamela’s talent, he was never really consistent at Spurs and his highly erratic nature cost the club rather often. Last season’s London derby against Arsenal comes to mind.

Gil represents a capture for the long term capture for Spurs at 20 years of age. A sparkling winger, he can add some life into the side and aid the likes of Son Heung-min and Harry Kane (if he stays). However, Spurs have not yet gotten the chance to integrate him into the side.

The Olympics were on till the last week. Spain’s journey to the final meant that Gil was not available. Nonetheless, he is said to be back at the club now. A few routine medical tests will be conducted following which he can be allowed to train. As for his debut, it could come as soon as Sunday when Spurs take on Man City in the season opener (h/t The Athletic).

Nuno Espirito Santo will have to be careful as to not rush the youngster into the side and especially against a side like City right on the opening weekend. Nonetheless, a cameo from the bench seems more likely. It shouldn’t hurt given that he has been playing regular football over the summer.
