Eric Dier shares his view on Tottenham selling Erik Lamela and Toby Alderweireld
According to the club’s official site, Eric Dier has spoken out on Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela leaving Tottenham. The long-serving duo left the club this summer with Spurs hitting the refresh button ahead of a new season.
Erik Lamela was among the more experienced players at the club after his move from AS Roma in 2013. He was among the several signings Spurs made during that season after Gareth Bale moved to Real Madrid for a then world-record fee. However, Lamela would only show flashes of his brilliance over the years before leaving for Sevilla in a swap deal for Bryan Gil.
The departure of Toby Alderweireld will likely hurt a lot. One of the most consistent names on the team sheet, he was an absolute rock at the back. He was signed from Atletico Madrid six years back and proved to be every bit worth the money and more. The Belgian left this season for Qatari side Al-Duhail.
With so many changes taking place across the club, another of Spurs’ long-serving players, Eric Dier has spoken about the departures of the aforementioned duo.
“For me, it was a bit strange when Christian and Jan left, because these are people I’d spent a lot of time with, even more so outside football. Now Toby and Coco have left as well. I’ve only known Tottenham with Coco! He was another guy I was close to.
“At the same time, we all know it’s part of football. From a young age, we’re used to it, and there are a lot of guys I’m still close to and we’ll all also build new relationships, which is nice and refreshing as well. Changes are all part of football, part of life.”
