Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur’s Alfie Whiteman joins Degerfors IF on loan
Swedish side Degerfors IF (h/t football.london) have confirmed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, Alfie Whiteman, on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old will be at the Allsvenskan side for the Swedish top-flight season, which begins in late March or early April and goes on until the beginning of November. The club also has the option to extend his loan deal beyond that time.
Speaking on Degerfors IF’s YouTube channel (h/t football.london), Whiteman explained his eagerness to play football for the historically significant Swedish club.

“So I woke up yesterday morning to a text about the interest and spoke to the club and immediately I was interested at the possibility to play out here in the top division for such an iconic club with so much history and great culture.”
Whiteman off to Sweden
The negotiations between the clubs did not take long. And the Englishman mentioned that he flew out to Sweden as soon as he could, once the deal was agreed upon.
“Throughout the day they just tried to figure it out between the two clubs and thankfully came to an agreement and I flew out as early as I could this morning.”
This is Whiteman’s first loan spell of his career and it comes at the right time because it would have been hard for him to get game-time at N17. He was Spurs’ number three goalkeeper behind Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart last season.
And even then, he could manage just 8 minutes of football which came in a Europa League group game. Things would have been equally hard, if not harder this season for him with the addition of talented Atalanta goalkeeper, Pierluigi Gollini.
