Transfer News: Tottenham in a three-way battle for Denis Zakaria
According to transfer news from BILD (h/t The Irish Sun), Tottenham are in a three-way battle for Denis Zakaria. The Swiss midfielder wants to move away from Borussia Monchengladbach and the trio of Spurs, Arsenal and Everton are keen to bring him to the Premier League.
Borussia Monchengladbach signed him in 2017 and since then, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the most promising defensive midfielders in Europe. He has played more than 100 games for the Bundesliga outfit, scoring 9 goals and providing 7 assists (h/t Transfermarkt). A full Switzerland international since 2016, Zakaria has 34 caps and 3 goals for his country so far.
Hence, it is no surprise to see him linked with a move to so many top clubs across Europe such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid in the past. And now, Zakaria has attracted the attention of the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton. (h/t Irish Sun)
The midfielder is said to be training extensively on a daily basis to remain fit in the hopes of a transfer away from Gladbach. The German side are expecting to get around £33million for him but his recent injury history could reduce that figure to £17million. Zakaria’s contract also runs out after the end of this season.

It’s rather puzzling as to why Spurs would want to go for another defensive midfielder despite having Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The club could use reinforcements in other areas such as defence and attack. However, Zakaria’s potential and relatively low valuation does make him an option worth looking into.
