Transfer News: Everton interested in Harry Winks

According to transfer news from reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton have shown interest in signing Harry Winks. The Tottenham midfielder is happy at the club and wants to prove himself but the Toffees are still said to be after him.

Winks, 25, rose through the ranks of Tottenham’s youth system and was promoted to the club’s senior setup in the summer of 2016. Since then, he has been a regular member of the squad. However, he has struggled for regular game time in recent seasons as Jose Mourinho had decent options in midfield.

Winks had been rather average last season. He still remains a part of the team, getting games on a sporadic basis. Nonetheless, there seems to be a certain degree of interest in him.

That interest seems to be coming from Everton. However, Rafael Benitez’s side are yet to make an offer for him. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano shed some light on the issue (h/t ECHO).

“I’m told that Everton have an interest in him, but I’m also told that he is really happy at Spurs. But he can be a player with a lot potential, and he still wants to show his skills at Tottenham.”

Spurs do have a decent crop of midfielders at their disposal. Players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso, and Tanguy Ndombele have been preferred ahead of Winks. However, he is a hard-working player to have on the side. Plus, with so many games to play over a season, it makes sense to keep Winks as he is said to be happy at the club.
