Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur keen on Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham if Harry Kane leaves

According to Ian McGarry on the Transfer Window podcast (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham if Harry Kane leaves this summer.

The 28-year-old Spurs talisman was the subject of a £100million bid from City. However, Daniel Levy is holding out for a fee in the region of £150million.

Nevertheless, the report states that City’s approach for Kane is imminent and the striker could push for a move before deadline day. And in such an event, Spurs would want to sign Abraham from Chelsea.

The Blues would apparently be content with a loan offer with an obligation to buy for £35million for the 23-year-old. Arsenal also share an interest in the Chelsea academy graduate, but the Gunners offer no European football this season. (h/t Express)

Abraham on Spurs’ radar?

It is hard to find a striker that replaces Kane in a satisfactory manner. His Premier League Golden Boot and Playmaker Award last season is a testament to his abilities as a finisher as well as a creator.

At 28, he is very much at the peak of his career, and joining a club like Man City, which Spurs’ would consider as their rivals for domestic trophies this season, would be a blow to the Lilywhites’ ambitions.

Abraham isn’t a bad striker. He impressed at Chelsea under Frank Lampard and finished last season as the Blues’ top scorer, tied with Timo Werner.

But fans would understand that the 23-year-old is in the formative stages of his career and cannot match Kane in terms of experience and individual accolades. The club’s priority should be to hold on to Kane, but if he does leave, a young striker like Abraham would be better than buying no one to replace him.
