Transfer News: Tottenham miss out on Nikola Milenkovic and Pau Torres
According to transfer news from Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have missed out on the signings of Nikola Milenkovic and Pau Torres. Milenkovic has decided to renew his contract with Fiorentina while Torres was a very unlikely option given his preference for Champions League football.
From the looks of it, Spurs were aiming to add another defender to their ranks even after the addition of Cristian Romero. Perhaps it was to be expected with Toby Alderweireld and Juan Foyth leaving and the defence now just a bit light on the numbers. The two defenders Spurs had on their radar are Pau Torres and Nikola Milenkovic.
Torres has seen his star rise at an exponential rate in the last few seasons at Villarreal. It was last season that he starred for Villarreal in their journey towards lifting the Europa League title against Manchester United. The problem with Torres is that he wants Champions League football but surprisingly, Spurs held no talks regarding a move for the Spaniard.
Milenkovic was another of those primary targets for Spurs but it seems as if Spurs never really went after him. The club never prepared a bid for him. With West Ham also not making progress, Milenkovic has made a u-turn to stay back at Fiorentina and sign a new contract until 2023.

Tottenham have kept a deal for Lautaro Martinez in the pipeline
It’s puzzling, to say the least, that Spurs did not really go after either defender when they wanted one. Both are talented defenders that could have made our backline much better if put alongside someone like Romero. It feels like Spurs missed a real trick here by not putting their weight behind any of these deals.
