Ryan Sessegnon wants to remain at Tottenham Hotspur despite competition
According to Evening Standard, Ryan Sessegnon wants to remain at Tottenham despite increased competition. He has revealed that he does not want to go out on another loan and fight for his place in the side under Nuno Espirito Santo this season.
It has been quite the journey for Ryan Sessegnon at just 21 years of age. A prodigious talent during his Fulham days, the winger has perhaps not had the same effect at Spurs. He struggled in his first season for the club and would only appear in 12 games without much effect. Hence, the decision to send him on loan was taken.
It must be said that Sessegnon has had quite the turnaround at Hoffenheim over the last season. He made far more appearances during his time in Germany. He is currently back at Spurs for now and is in line to challenge the likes of Sergio Reguilon and Ben Davies for starts down the left flank; also, he can possibly also challenge the wingers.
As mentioned, there is quite some competition for places at Spurs. Even if he were to compete on the wings, there are the likes of Son Heung-Min and Bryan Gil to fend off. Despite the current situation, Sessegnon wants to fight it out at the club and does not want another loan spell.
“There’s competition everywhere in the team but three good players in one position at left-back and it’s good for everyone involved. It pushes everyone to their limit. Everyone wants to be playing but only one can play at a time. Everyone is ready for the challenge and that’s what’s in front of us at the moment.
“It’s for me now to get on the pitch and try to play as many games as I can and try to stay injury-free. Last season I played a lot of games for Hoffenheim and I enjoyed my time there but I’m here now and I focused here on playing as many games as I can and the gaffer is giving me opportunities to play. I don’t have any plans to go back out on loan at the moment, I don’t think. I’m just really focused on doing my job here at Tottenham.”
